Here are some of the basic medical coverage choices and options that are available in Riverside, CA. (It should be noted that we have a very broad selection of wellness and health insurance choices available, beyond what is listed here.)
HMO – An HMO is a Health Maintenance Organization and has a list of doctors within their network that you must choose from. HMO plans don’t strictly limit your options to in-network provider, but it can sometimes be costly to go outside of the network (for example, to a private doctor that’s not affiliated with the HMO). With an HMO plan, a referral is required from your primary doctor to see a specialist.
PPO – A Preferred Provider Organization or PPO allows for more freedom of choice when deciding on a doctor to see and doesn’t require a referral to see a specialist. If you see a doctor outside the network, you still have coverage, but you may have to pay out of pocket and file for a reimbursement from the insurance company, which is often a lesser amount than would be paid for an in-network visit or procedure.
Health Accounts – Health Savings Accounts are tax-exempt accounts that employees can use to pay for their health care expenses. A combination of a basic insurance plan and a health savings account can sometimes be the best option for employers that want to offer great health benefits at an affordable price, while still offering the group ample choice when it comes to choosing a service or provider.
